The Basics of Video Lighting
Lighting your video can be simple effective and can really elevate the quality of your video to make it stand out.
Whether you have a big or small budget, the main trick to a professional looking lighting can be utilised at any scenario and a simple set of lights.
Here are the 3 point lighting used to light your subject & create a high quality videos :
- Key Light – Is your primary source of light. Make sure you use a diffuser to soften the light so that it’s doesn’t look harsh on your subject.
- Fill Light – It lights up the dark side of your subject, shadows that are created by the key light. The fill light which should be dimmer than the key light, but should be strong enough to bring out the details of your subject.
- Backlight – The final component in this technique which always adds a professional touch to your lighting. It adds a thin light and dimension to your subject.
Having this fundamental understanding in lighting can help you create professional looking videos with only 3 lights. In time you can build upon this skill and be more creative on how you light your videos.
