Last weekend I was holding a DeliBytes live workshop and one of the constant questions I was asked was
should I be scripting my video content?

The simple answer from my perspective is no. Not scripting your video content means it’s gonna come across a lot more natural and a lot less robotic than if you were reading a script or trying to memorise one.

If you’re just starting to create video content the easiest place to start is by thinking of your top FAQs. What are your frequently asked questions that you’re constantly being asked by your customers, your target market your prospects.

Once you’ve got those questions simply write down three bullet points to answer those and use those bullet points as a guide to talking through your video content. That’s gonna be the simplest way to start using video content.

If you do want to start scripting I’d recommend not having your script any longer than 200 words that’s about 2 minute video and you want to be practicing that and practice reading off say a teleprompter. For example there’s lots of apps you can use on your mobile or on an iPad an a professional video production company will be able to bring one on set with you.

One thing you do want to keep in mind is you don’t want that fonts too small and you don’t want to be reading it too robotically. Make sure you’ve practiced and make sure your eyes aren’t zigzagging across the screen so it looks a lot more natural.

Whether or not you’re going to go down the scripted route or from preference not script and go ad-lib make sure that you’ve got your key messages and your bullet points ready to go you don’t want to be waffling and making a video any longer.
