YouTube Red – YouTube’s premium paid ad-free service with original platform-funded content and offline access — launched here in Australia today!

Further to YouTube Red, the platform has also released it’s dedicated YouTube Music app – taking advantage of the mountains of music content already on YouTube.

Designed to make discovery, viewing & listening easier, here are the key things you need to know about the new service:

The price tag

Here in Australia you can now pay $9.99 a month to remove ads from the video platform, which also gives you the ability to download videos and play offline. This promotional price will be available for those who sign up before 6th June, thereafter the monthly subscription will increase to $11.99.

All users who sign up will receive a free month-long trial to test out the new features, and your membership is valid on any device and across all YouTube services — including the newly launched YouTube Gaming and YouTube Music apps.

Australia is the second region to get these new services following the US launch in late 2015 but the question remains, will Australian’s pay to skip YouTube ads?
